PROMOTING OUR MARITIME INDUSTRY
A new association has been formed to represent a number of maritime related Jersey based firms.
Jersey Maritime International was formed by a number of Jersey based firms with such diverse interests in maritime related business as insurance, yacht management, legal services, trust and company administration, accounting, crew management and payroll, surveying and maritime consultancy. Jersey is home registry to a large number of yachts and some commercial vessels and is proving an attractive base for a growing number of maritime businesses.
Jersey Maritime International aims to help diversify Jersey's economy, by building on the success of the Island as a world class finance centre and tourism venue, and representing the Island at Boat Shows, Maritime Conferences and other international events, where its members will inform the maritime industry of the services and advantages Jersey has to offer. Links with similar organisations and public authorities outside the island will also be sought.
Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Economic Development said: "Following discussions last year between a number of maritime experts and Jersey Enterprise, I am delighted to see the establishment of such an exciting initiative. Economic growth stimulated by cluster-based activity is gaining momentum throughout the world and the inception of Jersey Maritime International will help ensure the future success and growth of Jersey's marine business."
